Return to the Tomb of 5 Corners
As this campaign is intended to act as an introduction to Exalted for the players, I intend on using a combination of Exalted 2.0 standard rules and Exalted 2.5 rules from the latest Errata. However, to begin, I intend on keeping it simple with the quick-start rules as cited here I’m a particular fan of these quick-start rules as they are actually based off of the full blown rules rather than being a watered-down version of the system as many other quick-starts tend to be. As time goes on, my plan is to integrate the “Exalted 2.1” Errata (the Dawn Solution, etc) and then finally the 2.5 rules as I see fit to how the game progresses. As an alternative, depending on when this game actually begins, I may just scrap the 2.x thing and dive right into EX3!
Personally, at first read of the current Errata which includes the Exalted 2.5 rules updates, I’m not a particularly big fan of reducing the minimum damage that Exalted can deal on their attacks to 1 rather than leaving this at the attackers Essence Rating. To leave this rule effective in my games, at least temporarily to test and see if I would actually prefer to use the full 2.5 rule, I’ve modified the 2.5 rule in such a way that I feel it would be easy to reverse should my players and I decide we like the full 2.5 rule better.
Contrary to 2.5, minimum “ping” damage dealt by Exalted will still be equal to Essence Rating.
Weapons with the Overwhelming Tag still use their Damage rating as their minimum damage. When a weapon with the O tag is wielded by an Exalt, the greater between Exalt’s Essence Rating and Weapon Damage Rating determine minimum “ping” damage.
If a rule, Charm, etc. state that an attack deals “ping” damage greater than 1, then the [stated “ping” damage] -1 is added to an Exalt’s Essence Rating to determine the new “ping” damage of that attack when a particular Exalt executes it. For example, let’s say Joe Solar with an Essence Rating of 3 uses a 2.5-Charm that states the “ping” damage is 2. Under these House Rules, Joe Solar will be dealing 4 “ping” damage with this attack. That’s Essence plus one less the stated “ping” damage for the attack.
Charms or rules that modify an attack’s “ping” damage rather than set a hard number as “ping” damage use the attacking Exalt’s Essence as the base “ping” damage being modified.
